NCSSAA Sanctioned Events

Host an NCSSAA Sanctioned Event

College teams are encouraged to offer NCSSAA sanctioned events throughout the season. These events can still operate as fundraisers or conference competitions. Scores from a sanctioned event count towards qualification for Nationals (see Qualification section on this page for more information).

The purpose of these sanctioned events is two-fold: it legitimizes our sport and allows teams the opportunity to display their respected ranges while raising money for budgets. Many teams have hosted events in the past; although the event had purpose for the team, it did not impact other teams attempting to qualify for Nationals. Now these matches have a much bigger purpose. Requirements for hosting an NCSSAA sanctioned event are as follows:

  • Events must be approved by the NCSSAA Executive Director of Compliance and Competition and will be posted to the website once approval has been granted.
  • The host team does not need to offer all three disciplines to have their event sanctioned. For example, a team can host an event that offers only Sporting Clays and still have it sanctioned.
  • If an event offers more than 100 targets in any discipline, the highest score shot will be recorded as the qualifying score. Events with less than 100 targets will not be used as a qualifying score.
  • If Doubles Trap, Doubles Skeet, and Super Sporting targets are thrown at a sanctioned event, they will not be used as a qualifying score.
  • Three or more teams must participate in the competition in order for scores to be used for qualification. *Please note that if any teams need to shoot in the days leading up to an event due to capacity or for any other reason, there must be at least two teams present and competing to ensure scoring is fair.
  • Squads for sporting clays must be split between teams if the event is self-scored.
  • Team must be a member of NCSSAA to host an NCSSAA sanctioned event; teams attending a sanctioned event do not need to be members.
  • Teams can use their sanctioned event as a recruiting opportunity for high school students. However, high school competitors are not permitted to shoot with the college students or during the primary competition. Instead, teams may offer a high school portion outside of collegiate competition times. This can be before the collegiate event begins, after it has completed, or on a different day.
